Canopy collapses at Sunoco

— High wind combined with the weight of snow caused the canopy over the gas pumps at the Sandri Sunoco gas station to collapse early in the morning New Year’s Day.

No one was hurt in the accident, and the gas station was closed at the time of the incident. Owner Tahir Ayub said the business is insured.

According to Plattsburgh Fire Department officials, the canopy collapsed at 3:37 a.m., causing slight damage to the gas pumps. The station was barricaded by city officials and power was cut to the station.

The station is located at 5051 U.S. Ave, in front of Sky Way plaza in downtown Plattsburgh.
