Keeseville A Keeseville man has been arrested in connection with the early morning robbery of the Stewart’s Shop on Cumberland Head on Jan. 9.
New York State Police in Plattsburgh arrested David A. Brown, age 49, of Keeseville, in connection with the robbery of the Stewart’s Shop on State Route 9 at approximately 5 a.m. that same day.
State Police Lieutenant Brent Davison said a clerk at the Stewart’s Shop remembered the license plate of the vehicle used by the suspect. A witness then notified police of the abandoned car on Pine Street in Keeseville later that morning.
After police located the dark gray 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt on Pine Street, a State Police K9 tracked from the vehicle to Brown's residence in Keeseville. Davison said Brown was taken into police custody at 8 a.m. Search warrants were obtained for the vehicle and Brown’s residence and evidence collected led to his arrest at about 6 p.m. the same day. Davison said he could not disclose what evidence was found.
Brown was charged with first-degree robbery, a class B felony, and third degree criminal possession of weapon. Brown was arraigned in the town of Plattsburgh court before Justice Kevin Patnode and was remitted to the Clinton County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash, $40,000 bond.
In an earlier interview with Davison he said the armed robbery suspect and the vehicle used at the Plattsburgh Stewart’s Shop matched the description of a similar robbery at the Peru Stewart’s Shop on Jan. 2.
At both crime scenes the suspect was described as a white-male, with a black handgun, who wore a dark face covering, stole an undisclosed amount of money, and fled the scene in a small dark-colored vehicle with a rear spoiler.
“The suspect descriptions of approximate weight and height are similar, as well as the description of the car — a small dark sedan,” Davison said. “But at this time we have no evidence to say the two robberies are connected.”
Police are asking anyone that has information regarding these crimes to contact the New York State Police in Plattsburgh at 563-3761.
