New poll spells good, bad, ugly for Cuomo

A poll by the Siena Research Institute shows New York State residents give Gov. Andrew Cuomo mixed grades. According to the poll there was slippage in Cuomo’s job performance and generic re-elect ratings. By a 64-28 percent margin, voters say Cuomo has been an effective governor. However, on seven of eight specific issues, only between 15 and 26 percent of voters said that issue has improved since Cuomo’s been governor, while between 24 and 45 percent of voters said it has gotten worse. The poll was based on the opinions of 813 registered voters. The poll asked about ensuring equal rights for New Yorkers, New York’s business climate, lessening corruption in state government, state government effectiveness, personal economic well-being, quality of public education, economic well-being of most New Yorkers, and fairness of the state’s tax policy.

Woman, man found dead following murder, suicide

At 5:10 a.m. Feb. 10, the Plattsburgh Police Department received a 911 call from a paper carrier on Maryland Road who found a note on the door at 79 Maryland Road reporting a murder suicide.

Police searching for suspects in church burglary

Suspects made off with money from collection box

On Dec. 25, 2013, State Police responded to a report of a burglary at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Church Street in Champlain. The suspects had entered the church sometime during the night of Christmas Eve, following the evening mass, and stole an undetermined amount of money from the collection box. The suspects also damaged other property within the church.

Rivers sentencing delayed

Third man to be convicted in death of Keeseville man seeks new council

Michael Rivers, the man convicted on May 30, 2013 of first-degree manslaughter and gang-assault in the death of Keeseville resident Robert M. Rennie requested new counsel at his sentencing Thursday, Jan. 9 at the Essex County Courthouse. The request once again delayed sentencing for the third and final individual to be charged in relation to the father of two’s death.

SUNY sexual assault allegation leads to multiple other arrests

Plattsburgh city police are reporting that in the early morning hours of Nov. 23 a female SUNY Plattsburgh student reported to her friends on campus that she was possibly drugged and sexually assaulted at the AXP fraternity house, 147 Brinkerhoff Street.
